Migration: Go, Relax, & Enjoy

Earlier this year, Illumination released The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Mind you, this was when Disney was in the thick of letting the public know that they would be intentionally adding LGBTQ+ content to their movies and shows. Against my better judgment and without pre-screening, I took my family to the movies. We got popcorn and drinks and settled into our seats. For the next hour and a half, we laughed, smiled, and enjoyed a day at the movies without any political agenda. What I loved about the movie: The only agenda in a children's movie was Mario defeating Bowser to save the Mushroom Kingdom.

From that point, I looked back through Illumination's other movies and realized that, seemingly, their primary motivation in making animated movies is to entertain kids.

Because of this, I went out on another limb this week and took my family back to the movies to watch Illumination's newest film, Migration, without pre-screening.

Migration is a movie about a family of ducks who take a risk and migrate south for the winter for the first time against the husband/father's better judgment. Along the way, they have to fend off predators, navigate through the city, and befriend other birds. It's a cute, funny story told from a family perspective. Of course, they eventually make it south and enjoy the winter in the Caribbean. Migration is a feel-good family story with a happy ending...like all kid's movies should be. The movie's central theme is the importance of a family who loves and supports one another. Being a part of a family isn't always easy and requires effort. This family of Mallards is no exception. Families work best when they extend their love and support to those in need. You'll see all of that with this friendly family of migrating birds. As a parent, it's refreshing to see a movie that's just a movie and a fun one at that. As long as Illumination keeps the focus of Children's movies on entertaining kids without the political agenda, they can keep taking my money.

Parent to Parent

Take your kids to see the movie. Go, relax, and enjoy an hour and a half of stress-free entertainment for your kids. Don't worry about Hollywood trying to indoctrinate your child with some ridiculous agenda that's unfit for adults, much less children. Take your family to the theater and kick back, relax, and enjoy the show. Enjoy a film about the importance of family, helping those in need, and ducks.
