While his Twitter followers are short of graceful in their replies to his content, personally, I enjoy J.D. Greear. You'll be hard pressed to find someone who is more passionate about believers leveraging their life on earth for God's eternal kingdom. In both his preaching and his writing, J.D. Greear has never been one to shy away from challenging his audience to leverage their lives for the gospel. If you have read his other works or heard him preach, you know he believes in the mission of going, and sending others to go spread the gospel. This can happen through church planting, becoming an international missionary, or being an active part of a local church. Regardless, he always challenges you to choose the 'gospel above all.' (Conveniently, a title of another one of his books.) This book, is no exception.
"God calls him a fool for only one reason: he lived as if life on earth was all there was." - What are you going to do with your life? pg. 26
What are you going to do with your life? challenges believers to really evaluate their availability and commitment to take the gospel to the world. Greear explains that while we can enjoy things of this earth, that shouldn't be our goal. Our goal should be to live out what we are commanded to do as followers of Christ here on earth. He brings forward practical ways for believers to do so in order for us to do our part in God's plan for eternity. This book seems to be built specifically so Greear can call out the called directly and challenge them to redeem the time left in their lives for Christ. He does this in parts of his other books, but this little book drills down on that philosophy.
"Of course, you'll need to be called to go. But here's the other side of that: You also need to be called to stay." - What are you going to do with your life? pg. 122
The book is only 142 pages and has a below average surface area per page than the average book. Because of this, I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for some light reading. However, if you're looking for totally new content from J.D. Greear, I would probably wait until he releases another book. While the content is great, a lot of the points (and illustrations he uses with them) carry over from other books like Gaining by Losing. Overall, if you're looking for a short, practical book on why and how you can (and should) leverage their lives for God's kingdom, this is the book for you!
